21 November 2024 / Thursday / 18:00
Lublin Opera, ul. Skłodowskiej 5
Sam Kowalski is the solo project of Mateusz Kowalski, known from numerous ensembles shaping the Polish traditional and folk music scene (Radical Polish Ansambl, Tęgie Chłopy, Strug Kompania, Monodia Polska, Warszawska Orkiestra Sentymentalna, Nicponie). He was awarded a special prize by the Fryderyk Chopin National Institute in the “New Tradition” competition in 2024.
The concert will feature and perform oberek melodies, primarily from the region near Przysucha (south of Radom), learned from older-generation fiddlers and singers during a decade-long exploration of traditional music passed down through oral tradition. Usually sung and played on the fiddle, these tunes will be accompanied this time by a miniature classical guitar. (A visual element will complement the performance with a film recorded with Gary Gwadera on VHS tape during a tour of the villages near Przysucha on Corpus Christi Day in 2024.)
