Synnøve Brøndbo Plassen and Michał Żak are heirs to the musical traditions of their homelands. Both have inherited repertoire, performance practices, and instruments from their ancestors — a Norwegian fiddler and a Polish dulcimer player.
The artists blend ancient melodies, learned over years of practice with rural musicians, with modern improvisation. Their duo balances on the edge of tradition and free expression, creating compositions rich in sonoristic textures. Dance tunes, shepherd songs, wedding and funeral music from both Poland and Norway come together in their performances, transcending geographical origins. Plassen and Żak are travelers, carrying melodies across instruments, voices, and cultures, much like their forebears once did.
